Typically I don't bring any type of mattress into the backcountry, this is just personal preference. I saw this and I thought, well if it can pack down to about the size of a Nalgene bottle, it might be a useful thing to carry in my AT pack. As we all know, hypothermia is one of the main concerns for patients in winter backcountry activity. If you can cut away one of the five ways we loose heat and it's extremely light and useful, why not. Weighing in at only 14oz this Therm-a-rest may be the first one I choose to buy.
